Actually I think it has to do with how ICQ handles names.
The fact that you can personalize the display names of the people on your contact list.
I guess the most recent version of ICQ kind of causes the old ones to stick by default.

In all fairness this is probably superior to Steam. With ICQ you can reach me at home, at work, on the move - whatever.

I've used Steam since it first came out with Half-Life 2, and the chat seems to suck as much as it always did. ICQ is superior. Your contact list is right there, bam. And you can send files.

Oh so you want to chat in game? Use ventrilo or teamspeak. Or use alt-tab like a real man.
