The rumor has become reality: Microsoft bought Mojang, makers of Minecraft.
MicroCraft?
Just be careful kids: one day you're having fun playing Minecraft. The next day you're setting Internet Explorer as your default browser.

*Microsoft wakes up in a destroyed Vegas hotel room next to mountains of coke and a tiger* "Oh god what the fuck did we buy last night?"
Enough said.

I bet an Intern at Microsoft thought he was buying Mahjong.
In all seriousness. I know the potential but how is Minecraft a strategy for Microsoft in moving forward? I say this because of the investment. 2.5 billion?

I see it as Minecraft 2 investment. It almost all but gurentees that that will become areality and probly exclusive to Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox. Minecraft still has some life in it if it continues its current trek, but i see MC 2 a reality for at the min the next Xbox release.

With the Top guy at Mojang leaving and Microsoft holding the proverbial bag... That's probably a red flag.

Yeah just another case of some company trying to buy a band wagon... and the band jumps off.
They know its not going anywhere anytime soon. Each time a grown player steps away a new elementary school kid is just discovering it. I live with 2 new players years 9 and 13. The 9 year old was happy today about some upgrade its getting....."new sheep meat" she said (or something like that), I said to myself "How Ironic..."

The problem for Microsoft moving forward is that Notch was Minecraft.
You take away that component and suddenly the wholesome, sandbox world becomes the mass-produced offering of a mega-corporation, and then it doesn't seem quite so inviting.

Notch hasn't worked day to day on Minecraft in ages - years probably. Really what Minecraft is today is already "not what Notch wanted" which is why he was keen to sell out.
It's sad but not unexpected. Better Microsoft than King though!

It was inevitable to happen, because notch can't handle owning something so big and exciting. He seems to be a simple man. Which isn't too bad
