I wasn't sure what I'd think of this film, but I loved every second.
The characters having been well established could have fun, it had a message, it had understanding of life in space and Trek's concept of expansion and giving aid. It was TOS episode put on overdrive, with the cheese turned down and character dynamics further explored.
Idris Elba was very good too. Thoughts?

Re: Star Trek Beyond
I went to see it yesterday with the girlfriend (I've forced spoon-fed her the old series and movies for close to 2 years now). Honestly, I completely share your views. It was a fun ride, you could tell the producer took the time to navigate the old and add the necessary contemporary Hollywood factor.
The whole interference with music thing (and what followed) was pushing it a bit but even then, I stayed hook and enjoyed the ride. It was well balanced. I think I might even like it more than the last 2. Maybe even had we been 10 years earlier and this producer had to make a TNG movie - it would have been on par with First Contact.

Thank you,

The music bit was the Hollywood gimmick I anticipated, but there was enough substance beyond it. It reminded me of the Trek theme of Captains losing their crew in the dead of space. I agree that I prefer it to the previous two.Picard wrote:I went to see it yesterday with the girlfriend (I've forced spoon-fed her the old series and movies for close to 2 years now). They've successfully created a different brand of Trek.
